The 13 km Corniche, Hassan II Mosque loops, quiet Anfa streets and Bouskoura forest, with heat, wind and timing tips for Casablanca runs.

Casablanca has one long Atlantic line, 13 km of it, and a breeze that turns up most afternoons. The running routes in Casablanca start on the Corniche and fan inland into residential streets where locals train before the traffic builds. The hour you pick matters as much as the route.

Where to run in Casablanca, in one sentence: start at the Marina, head south along the Corniche, and turn around when your legs or the clock say so. In this guide, we will break down the Corniche distance and surface, three short city loops, and the neighbourhoods locals actually use. We will also cover the heat, wind and Ramadan timing that decide how a run here feels.

The Casablanca Corniche - Marina to Morocco Mall

Casablanca Corniche running is where most visitors start. From the Marina to Morocco Mall the line runs about 13 km one way, almost all of it on wide pavement or a pedestrian boardwalk, with the ocean on your right the whole way south. You can stop wherever you like and take a taxi back.

The climb is gentle: about 72 m spread over the full line, most of it on the rise above Lalla Meryem Beach. A lap of the mosque grounds adds roughly 2 km of flat esplanade, and the El Hank lighthouse detour is worth another kilometre.

  • Marina to Ain Diab: the first 5 km, wide and level, good for a warm-up or a tempo block.
  • Lalla Meryem Beach: the one real rise, softened by a boardwalk and open water.
  • El Hank lighthouse: a quiet detour of about a kilometre.
  • Boulevard de l’Ocean Atlantique: the road changes name around 9 km as you close on the mall.
  • Beach sand at low tide: firm enough for a soft-surface finish if your knees prefer it.

Short Loops - Hassan II Mosque, Arab League Park, the Medina

On a windy day or a tight schedule, stay in the centre. The Hassan II Mosque complex covers 9 hectares, holds 25,000 worshippers inside and space for another 80,000 on the esplanade, so a lap of the grounds is already a proper run.

Run it outside prayer times, keep shoulders and knees covered, and you have one of the few flat places in the city where cars are not a factor. Arab League Park adds around 30 hectares of marked paths among palms and lawns, close enough to Mohamed V Square to link the two into a single loop.

The old medina works only early. The alleys are narrow and shared with handcarts, so go before the shutters go up, keep the pace easy, and count a step or a kerb as part of the route.

Quiet Miles - Anfa, CIL, Oasis and Californie

Jogging in Casablanca mostly happens in these four districts rather than on the seafront. Anfa is leafy and calm enough that you will pass other runners; CIL is almost entirely residential; Oasis is low-rise with gardens; Californie, east between the A3 and A1, sees fewer cars. None of them has a dedicated running lane, so watch your feet rather than your watch.

  • Anfa: shaded streets and light traffic, best for an easy hour.
  • CIL: the quietest of the four, with long straight blocks that suit intervals.
  • Oasis: low-rise villas and gardens, pleasant for a short recovery run.
  • Californie: fewer cars and a hillier edge, useful when you want effort without dodging taxis.

For soft ground and shade, head out to Bouskoura Forest, about 20 km east and close to 3,000 hectares of eucalyptus, acacia and Aleppo pine, with a loop of roughly 9 km. Dar Bouazza, 20 km southwest, gives firm sand for beach miles. Tamaris, 30 km south, has a wide seafront path for a 10 km out-and-back. All three need a taxi or a driver.

Timing and Heat - Plan Around Ramadan and the Atlantic Breeze

Summer here is humid rather than scorching: highs near 27C, humidity close to 80%, mornings hazy and still, and an Atlantic breeze that builds through the afternoon. Winter is mild at around 17C by day and 6C at night. A chergui spell can lift temperatures sharply for a day or two, so check the forecast the night before a hard session.

Ramadan rewrites the timetable. The hour before iftar and the hour after dawn are the cool, quiet windows, and the roads are nearly empty then. Keep those sessions short, carry water, and expect empty roads followed by full ones after sunset.

  • Just after sunrise: coolest air and the least traffic, the default summer slot.
  • An hour before sunset: the breeze is up and the Corniche fills with walkers.
  • The hour before iftar: near-empty streets, so keep the mileage short.
  • After a chergui day: check air quality before anything hard.

Make It a Trip - Where Running Fits

A run is a good way to read a city before the day starts. You get the mosque esplanade at first light, the fishing gear going out at Ain Diab, the bakery shutters lifting in CIL. Build it into a morning and let the rest of the day carry on without you.

If you want the city beyond the pavement, our guide to the best things to do in Casablanca pairs well with an early run, and a private driver-guide can drop you at the Marina at dawn and collect you at Morocco Mall two hours later.

From Casablanca we run the 10-Day Tour from Casablanca to Sahara Desert via Fes, which trades Atlantic mornings for desert ones, and the 8-Day Imperial Cities and Desert Tour from Casablanca for a shorter loop through the imperial cities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I run in Casablanca?

The Corniche from the Marina toward Ain Diab and Morocco Mall is the main line, about 13 km one way. Shorter options are the Hassan II Mosque esplanade, Arab League Park, and the quiet streets of Anfa, CIL, Oasis and Californie.

How long is the Corniche running route in Casablanca?

Roughly 13 km from the Marina to Morocco Mall, with about 72 m of total climb. Most of the elevation sits on the rise above Lalla Meryem Beach, so the rest of the line stays close to flat.

What is the best time of day to run in Casablanca in summer?

Just after sunrise. Summer highs sit near 27C with humidity around 80%, so a morning feels heavier than the number suggests. Late afternoon works once the Atlantic breeze builds.

Is it safe to run in Casablanca, and what should I wear?

Yes, on the Corniche and in the residential districts, with the usual city care. Cover shoulders and knees, avoid isolated stretches after dark, and treat air quality as the main constraint.
